QR Code Generator

Turn a link, phone number or piece of text into a QR code and download it as a PNG. The code is generated in your browser, contains your data directly, and never expires.

How to create a QR code

  1. Type or paste the URL or text you want the code to contain.
  2. Choose a size - larger sizes print more reliably.
  3. The QR code updates as you type; scan it with your phone to check it.
  4. Press Download PNG to save it.

Static codes and why they matter

This generator produces static QR codes: the data lives inside the pattern itself. Nothing is stored on a server, there is no tracking, no account and nothing that can stop working because a service shut down or a free trial ended.

The trade-off is that a static code cannot be edited after printing. If the destination may change, point the code at a URL you control and change where that URL redirects.

Longer content makes a denser pattern that is harder to scan. Shorten long URLs before generating, particularly for anything that will be printed small.

Printing QR codes reliably

Keep the code at least 2 × 2 cm for close-range scanning, and larger for posters read from a distance. A rough guide is one tenth of the scanning distance.

Leave a quiet zone - clear space equal to about four modules around the code. Text or artwork crowding the edge is a common cause of failed scans.

Keep dark on light with strong contrast. Inverted codes scan poorly on many devices. Always test the printed code, not just the file on screen.

Frequently asked questions

Do these QR codes expire?

No. The data is encoded in the image itself, so there is no service that can stop working. The code will scan for as long as the destination it points to exists.

Can I use these QR codes commercially?

Yes. There is no watermark, no attribution requirement and no limit on how you use the generated image.

Can I track scans?

Not directly - static codes contain no tracking. Encode a URL tagged with UTM parameters and your analytics will record the visits.

What can a QR code contain?

Any text. A URL is the most common use, but plain text, a phone number or a WhatsApp click-to-chat link all work.
